FYI: information about the Saxer Ave closure. On Tuesday, July 5th PECO will begin the final phase of the Saxer Avenue gas main replacement project. This phase involves boring under the SEPTA trolley tracks to connect the gas mains. To accomplish this, two large, 10-foot-deep pits will be dug on either side of the tracks. These pits, noted as launch and receiving, will be on the eastern side of Saxer Avenue (across from O’Connell’s). The receiving pit on the northern end (St. Francis of Assisi side) of the project will be the smaller of the two pits and is expected to be 10 feet by 10 feet in size. The launch pit will be larger at 10-feet wide by 30-to-40 feet in length. The larger size is to accommodate the boring equipment. Both pits will be surrounded by security measures, including concrete barriers and fencing. As you can guess, this project will be extremely involved. Therefore, Saxer Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic between South Rolling Road and Hart Lane for the duration of the project. Additionally, South Rolling Road, in front of the new high school, will also be closed. This closure is expected to take 6 weeks pending no work or weather delays; however, as you can see in the attached letter, may potentially take longer. Pedestrian traffic will be allowed access past the work zone, so please continue to patronize our Saxer Avenue merchants despite the disruption to vehicle traffic and parking. ... See MoreSee Less
