On March 9, 2020 Springfield Fire Company responded with EMS to the Day’s Inn for a cardiac arrest. Squad 44 responded quickly and arrived, they found a 58 year old person unconscious with depressed breathing. A witness reported a possible opioid overdose. The crew immediately administered naloxone (narcan) to the subject and assisted breathing with a bag-valve-mask. EMS arrived and continued care administering another dose of naloxone. After several minutes the subject woke up and was conscious enough to walk to the ambulance. This was the first time Springfield Fire Company has administered naloxone since we were approved to carry it on February 1, 2020. The members of the company want to thank Chief Mark Sherwood and the Springfield Township Commissioners for their progressive thinking and giving our firefighters the opportunity to assist those who are suffering from an overdose.

On Saturday February 15 Springfield Fire Company along with EMS responded to Rose and Springfield Road for an accident with a car into a house. Crews arrived and found a vehicle in the home. The operator had fled the scene but was apprehended by police. No one was injured. The fire company stood by until the vehicle was pulled out of the home. The scene was then turned over to the Fire Marshal and L&I.

On Thursday February 13 Springfield Fire Company responded to the area of O’Leary’s Funeral Home for a car fire. Squad 44 arrived and used a hand line to extinguish an engine compartment fire. Crews were on scene for about 30 minutes along with Springfield Ambulance and Police.
