Accident with Entrapment on South Chester Road

MVA with Entrapment

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched along with South Media Fire Company (Company 51) to assist Swarthmore Fire Company (Company 14) on Sunday, May 27th, at 10:39 hours to South Chester Road and Yale Avenue for a Motor Vehicle Accident with Entrapment.  Upon arrival of units from Company 14 and Swarthmore Police, two vehicles were involved in an accident in the intersection, with one vehicle being pinned into a utility pole.

Firefighters from Company 14 provided initial stabilization until crews from Rescue 44 and Rescue 51 arrived.  Firefighters from Rescue 44 used the Holmatro rescue tools to remove the driver's side door on one vehicle to make room to remove the driver.  Rescue crews from Rescue 44, TAC 44 and Rescue 51 then worked to remove the roof of the vehicle to allow the removal of the front seat passenger.  Engine 13-2 stood by the Helicopter Landing Zone at 401 Rutgers Avenue.

Ambulance crews from Ambulance 14-7 and Ambulance 44-7 transported two injured subjects to area hospitals.  Ambulance 23-7 transported one subject to the helicopter landing zone.  Pennstar's medical helicopter transported one subject to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 11:54 hours.
