Springfield Firefighters Have Strong Showing for a Fourpeat

Springfield Fire Company set out to do it again.  Having won the The Top Emergency Responder Cup for three straight years, Springfield Firefighters set out to defend the title in 2007 at the Run for Heroes 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, October 14th.  The 7th annual Run for Heroes 5K Run/Walk is held to support the Delaware County Hero Scholarship Fund.  Springfield Fire Company has been the Top Emergency Responder team for 2004, 2005 and 2006 in the race, taking the title away from the Springfield Police Department who won it in 2002 and 2003.

Springfield Fire Company had Tower 44 set-up at the start and finish line of the race to provide some aerial views of the race.  Springfield Fire Company had 9 teams in this year's event, a total of 40 participants, including the wives and children of some of our members.  Springfield Fire Company Fire Police Officer George Farrelly Sr. participated in the race one day after celebrating his 71th birthday.  The running team of Lt. Joseph Fraatz, Safety Officer John Hammell, Firefighter Bill Lavery, Firefighter John Devlin and Firefighter Matthew LeTourneau set out to defend the Cup and bring home the top prize once again.

When the race was completed, the Top Emergency Responder Cup was returned to Springfield Fire Company for the fourth straight year.  Springfield Fire Company would like to thank everyone who participated in the race and helped raise money for the Hero Scholarship Fund and to the residents who offered support to the participants along the course.  Springfield Fire Company looks forward to defending this top prize again next year.  The annual event has helped raise over $175,000 for the Hero Scholarship Fund.
