Assist to Norwood on Three Alarm Fire

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched to assist Company 02 (Norwood) on Tuesday, April 24th at 13:50 hours at 201 Tatnall Avenue, Norwood Borough on the Second Alarm assignment for the Rapid Intervention Team.  Engine 44-4 responded with 6 firefighters and set-up on the fire scene on Tatnall Avenue.

Company 02 was originally dispatched to the address for a possible brush fire.  Upon arrival there were two detached garages and a shed well involved in fire with fire extending to multiple dwellings.  During the operations, three firefighters were unaccounted for after evacuation tones were sounded for one of the dwellings involved.  Springfield's Rapid Intervention Team and Company 45 (Parkside) Rapid Intervention Team worked together and quickly located the three firefighters on the second floor of the dwelling.

The fire had reached three alarms before being placed under control.  Two homes were heavily damaged, two garages and a shed were destroyed and two neighboring houses sustained heat and smoke damage.  Two firefighters were treated for injuries sustained on the scene.

Springfield firefighters remained on the scene until 16:50 hours.
