Firefighters Extinguish Car Fire on Blue Route

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched with Broomall Fire Company (Company 53) on Tuesday, November 28th, at 00:11 hours to Interstate 476 at the Route 1 Interchange for a Vehicle Fire.  Upon arrival of Chief 44-9B, fire was showing from the engine compartment of a vehicle on the Northbound Off ramp from I-476.

TAC 44 arrived on location and placed an 1 3/4" hose line in service and quickly controlled the fire.  Firefighters from Engine 53-2 assisted on the scene.  Firefighters from Engine 44-4 and Engine 53-3 stood by on the scene.

Firefighters were surprised to find out that the driver of the vehicle had just rented the car from a rental car company at the Philadelphia International Airport and the vehicle had only 3 miles on it when he left.  The extra 7 miles on the car must have been too much for the vehicle to handle.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 00:41 hours.
