Springfield Firefighters Cup Crazy Springfield Fire Company set out to do it again. Having won the Delco Cup for a third straight year in September, Springfield Firefighters set out to defend another Cup with the chance for another three pete. This time it was at the annual Run for Heroes 5K Run/Walk. Springfield Fire Company has been the Top Emergency Responder team for 2004 and 2005 in the race, taking the title away from the Springfield Police Department who won it in 2002 and 2003. The annual race benefits the Hero Scholarship Fund of Delaware County. Springfield Fire Company had Tower 44 set-up at the start and finish line of the race to provide some aerial views of the race. Springfield Fire Company had 7 teams in this years event, a total of 31 participants, including the wives and children of some of our members. Springfield Fire Company Fire Police Officer George Farrelly Sr. participated in the race two days after celebrating his 70th birthday. The running team of Lt. Matthew LeTourneau, Safety Officer John Hammell, Firefighter Bill Lavery, Firefighter Jamie Stapleton and Firefighter Joseph Fraatz set out to defend the Cup and bring home another three pete. When the race was completed, the Top Emergency Responder Cup was returned to Springfield Fire Company for the third straight year. Springfield Fire Company would like to thank everyone who participated in the race and helped raise money for the Hero Scholarship Fund and to the residents who offered support to the participants along the course. Springfield Fire Company looks forward to defending this top prize again next year.. |
