Vehicle Fire During Evening Rush Hour on I-476

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Monday, September 11th, at 18:35 hours to I -476 Northbound at Exit 5 for a Vehicle Fire.  TAC 44 was advised by 53-9A that the vehicle was just North of Exit 5 at Mile Marker 5.6.

TAC 44 arrived on location and went into service with an 1 3/4" hose line.  Engine 44-4 arrived right behind TAC 44 and shut down the flow of traffic during the initial fire suppression.  Once the fire was under control, one lane of traffic was opened back up to allow traffic to proceed past at a safe speed.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, but the vehicle was a total loss.  Firefighters remained on the scene until 19:05 hours.

Units operating on the scene were:  TAC 44, Engine 44 and Engine 53-2.
