Storms Keep Firefighters Busy for 3 hours

On Tuesday, July 18th, Springfield firefighters were starting a training class on Rapid Intervention Team operations with neighboring Media Fire Company when severe storms rolled through the area.  The training session quickly ended when numerous emergency calls started coming in related to the storm.

During a three hour period, Springfield firefighters responded to 14 emergencies.  The calls ranged from wires down, Automatic Fire Alarms, two building fires and an elevator rescue.

Springfield firefighters removed one subject from an elevator in the Victoria Mills Office Complex.  A power outage trapped the individual inside the elevator on the third floor.  Springfield firefighters maintained communications with the individual inside the elevator until firefighters from Rescue 44 and TAC 44 were able to use elevator rescue keys to manually open the doors to the elevator on the third floor.

Springfield firefighters handled two house fire calls during this time.  One fire was contained to the dryer inside the home and the second house fire was electrical in nature and was contained to the electrical panel in the dwelling..

With the summer storm season upon us, Springfield Fire Company would like to remind residents to stay clear of any downed wires or electrical equipment and call 911 immediately.
