Photos by Frank Wesnoski©2006

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Saturday, June 10th at 20:43 hours to 320 Chester Road, Nether Providence Township, for the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) to assist at the scene of a Commercial Building Fire.  Company 65 (Garden City) was initially dispatched to the address for a trash fire.  Upon arrival of Nether Providence Police and Engine 65-1, the fire had already extended into the Cycle Fit business and the building fire assignment was dispatched.  Firefighters started an interior attack and worked to keep the fire from spreading throughout the building.

Springfield Firefighters assisted on the scene as a secondary RIT to assist Media Fire Company (Company 23) with RIT operations.  Springfield Firefighters stood by in the rear of the structure, Side C/D corner.  Springfield Firefighters placed a ladder on Side C because of numerous firefighters operating on the roof and also completely removed a garage door on Side D so firefighters could operate safely in a rear storage room area of the building.  Springfield Firefighters assisted with overhaul operations before being released by Company 65 Command.

Companies operating on the scene were:  Company 65, Company 51 (South Media), Company 23, Company 63 (Green Ridge), Company 45 (Parkside), Company 52 (Brookhaven) and Company 47 (Feltonville - Canteen).  The fire is under investigation by Nether Providence Township Fire Marshal's office.
