Mile of Maroon Honors Collingdale on Their 100th Anniversary
Springfield Fire Company honored Collingdale Fire Company #1 during their 100th Anniversary Parade on Saturday, June 3rd. With the rain coming down hard all morning long, the rain stopped just in time for the members of Collingdale Fire Company #1 to step off and lead the parade through the streets of Collingdale. Springfield Fire Company participated in the parade in a way that the Company has not been seen in a long time. The membership of Springfield Fire Company worked hard to prepare 8 of the Company's apparatus for the parade. For the first time in over thirty years, members of Springfield Fire Company marched in a competition parade. 5 members of the company marched as a Color Guard with the Fire Company Flag, State of Pennsylvania Flag, the American Flag and two firefighter axes. At the end of the day when the parade was finished and the awards were handed out, Springfield Fire Company brought home 6 awards. Best appearing and most functional second place awards were received for Rescue 44 (Heavy Rescue) and Engine 44-3 (Antique). Best appearing and most functional first place awards were received for Engine 44-1 (Engine 2000 - present) and Tower 44 (Aerial Platform or Tower). The final two first place awards were for best appearing company with at least 20 members marching and no music and for the Best Appearing Delaware County Fire Company. Springfield Fire Company would like to congratulate the membership of Collingdale Fire Company #1, past and present, on their 100 years of dedicated service to the residents of Collingdale Borough and surrounding communities. Springfield Fire Company would also like to thank both Collingdale Fire Company #1 and #2 for the wonderful display of fire service tradition by having the Camden County Emerald Society Pipes and Drums and the Washington DC Emerald Society Pipes and Drums perform during and after the parade. |
