Maintenance Building Burns at High School Springfield Fire Company was dispatched to Springfield High School, 49 West Leamy Avenue, on Thursday, April 20th at 19:25 hours for a Structure Fire. Springfield Township Fire Marshal, Car 1, arrived on the scene in the rear of the High School and had smoke showing from the Maintenance Building. Chief 44-9B arrived on location and established command and had Engine 44-1 lay a supply line into the scene from the 100 block of Wyndmoor Road. Tower 44 assisted the crew from Engine 44-1 with forcible entry so they could start an interior attack with an 1 3/4" hose line. Tower 44 then opened up the garage doors and started ventilation on the roof. Engine 44-2 hooked up to the hydrant and supplied Engine 44-1. Chief 44-9B had firefighters from Quint 03 and Engine 03-2 (Clifton Heights) open up the building in the rear by the track and operate multiple 1 3/4" hose lines. Rescue 43 and Utility 43 (Holmes) stood by on the scene as the Rapid Intervention Team. Firefighters from Rescue 52 (Brookhaven) assisted on the scene with manpower and the Air Bank. Firefighters encountered a heavy fire load of highly combustible materials stored inside the maintenance building which initially made gaining control of the fire difficult. Firefighters were able to gain control of the fire within 30 minutes and performed extensive salvage and overhaul operations. Ambulance 44-7, Ambulance 03-7 and Medic 106 established rehab for firefighters on the scene. Two firefighters were transported to Springfield Hospital for injuries. Firefighters remained on the scene until 21:45 hours.
