Wayward Pipe Punctures Gas Tank of Vehicle on State Road

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Tuesday, February 7th, at 15:31 hours to South State Road and Collins Drive for a Fuel Spill.  Upon arrival of Captain 44-12A and TAC 44, a mini-van had run over some copper pipe that was laying in the roadway and one of the pipes punctured a hole in the vehicle's gas tank.

Firefighters from TAC 44 spread oil dry to contain the gasoline spill area and secured the vehicle.  The accident was a costly one for the owner, for not only did she have a hole in the bottom of her vehicle from the incident, she had to watch as 15 gallons of that high priced gasoline she just put into her vehicle a short time before flowed out onto the highway.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 16:00 hours.

Units and personnel operating on the scene were:  TAC 44, Utility 44, Springfield Police and Fire Police.

A special thanks to Ocean City Fire Department Firefighter George Karpinski for his assistance on the call while visiting the area.  George is a past active member of Springfield Fire Company and currently a career firefighter in Ocean City, NJ.
