Assist to Broomall on Dwelling Fire Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Thursday, December 8th at 11:28 hours to assist Company 53 (Broomall) in the 2800 block of Gradyville Road for a Building Fire. Upon arrival of Chief 53-9B, heavy smoke was showing from the residence and the call was upgraded to a working fire. Firefighters from Company 53 and Company 41 (Newtown Square) started an initial attack on the fire in the basement of the home. Company 44 was initially dispatched as the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) on the call and Chief 53-9B had them assisting crews in the interior of the home with opening up wall and ceiling check for fire extension on the first and second floors. Company 14 (Swarthmore) was dispatched to replace Company 44 as the RIT. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes and firefighters performed extensive salvage and overhaul operations. Firefighters remained on the scene for more than 2 hours assisting with the fire investigation. Units operating on the scene were: Tele-Squrt 53, Engine 41-3, Engine 53-2, Ladder 41, Engine 44-4, Engine 53-3, Engine 41-1, Ambulance 53-7, Engine 14-2, Marple Police, Fire Police and Pennsylvania State Police. |
