Dwelling Fire on Forest Road Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Saturday, November 26th at 18:37 hours to the 100 block of Forest Road for a Building Fire. Upon arrival of Chief 44-9, light smoke was showing inside the home. Engine 44-1 arrived on location and went into service with an 1 3/4" hose line in the kitchen on the first floor. Firefighters had fire inside the walls of the kitchen and started checking for fire extension. Firefighters from Tower 44 laddered the dwelling and placed a second 1 3/4" hose line into service on the second floor above the kitchen area. Firefighters had fire in the walls in the basement, first and second floors in a wall area where the water pipes were running. Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to quickly locate the fire inside the walls and opened up the walls to expose and extinguish the fire and to stop the fire from spreading any further. Firefighters from Engine 44-2 established a water supply to Engine 44-1 from a hydrant at Forest Road and Leamy Avenue. Manpower from Rescue 44 and Utility 44 assisted on the scene. A Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) from Company 43 (Holmes) stood-by on the fire ground. The fire was contained to the wall area and firefighters performed extensive overhaul checking for any possible fire extension. Springfield Firefighters did locate a cat inside the home and reunited the cat with the grateful homeowners. The fire is under investigation by the Springfield Township Fire Marshal's Office and appears to be accidental in nature. Firefighters remained on the scene until 21:00 hours. Units operating on the scene were: Engine 44-1, Tower 44, Engine 44-2, Rescue 44, Utility 44, Rescue 43 - RIT, Ambulance 44-7 & 44-7A, Medic 106 (Springfield Hospital), Springfield Police and Fire Police. Clifton Heights Fire Company (Company 03) and Manoa Fire Company (Company 56) provided stand-by overage at Station 44 during the incident. |
