Firefighters Respond to Gasoline Tank Truck Fire

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Monday, October 31st, at 11:17 hours to State Road and West Springfield Road for a vehicle fire involving a gasoline tank truck.  Chief 44-9 had Company 53 (Broomall) dispatched to assist Company 44 with reports of a gasoline tank truck being involved.  Chief 44-9 and TAC 44 arrived on location and reported smoke showing from the rear axle of an 18 wheel gasoline tank truck on the property of the East Coast gas station at State Road and West Springfield Road.

Firefighters from TAC 44 placed an 1 3/4" hose line into service to cool down the rear axle.  Firefighters from Engine 53-2 assisted on scene.  Firefighters were able to quickly control the fire in the rear axle and kept the fire away from the gasoline storage tank area of the trailer.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 12:17 hours.

Units operating on the scene were:  TAC 44, Engine 53-2, Ambulance 44-7, Springfield Police and Fire Police, Springfield Township Fire Marshal Car 1 and Pennsylvania State Police.
