Long Driveway Challenges Firefighters on Levis Lane House Fire Springfield Fire Company was dispatched, along with Clifton Heights Fire Company (Company 03) and Broomall Fire Company (Company 53 - RIT) on Wednesday, September 1st, at 09:25 hours to the 300 Block of Levis Lane for a House Fire. Chief 44-9 went responding and was advised by County 911 that the caller was reporting a working fire at the residence. Chief 44-9 and Springfield Township Fire Marshal (Car 1) arrived on location and confirmed a working basement fire. Engine 44-1 laid a 1000' of 5" supply into the scene from a hydrant on Sherman Road. Levis Lane is a private driveway off of Sherman Road that accesses three houses on the small narrow driveway. Engine 44-1 conducted a primary search of the residence because there were initial reports of possible entrapment inside the house. Firefighters quickly searched the house and found no residents inside and went in service with an 1 3/4" hose line to control the fire in basement. Additional firefighters from Engine 44-2 and Quint 03 conducted secondary searches of the house and assisted the crew from Engine 44-1. Firefighters from Rescue 53 stood by as the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) and assisted with overhaul operations once the fire was under control. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the basement area of the home. Firefighters performed salvage and overhaul operations in the basement area and also checked the first floor for any possible fire extension. Firefighters performed ventilation operations for the entire structure. Firefighters were able to get some apparatus into the scene, but some trees had to cut down to get the same apparatus back out of the narrow Levis Lane driveway. Thanks to the tree removal team, everyone will be getting their lumberjack journeyman cards shortly. The fire is under investigation by Springfield Township Fire Marshal's Office. Firefighters remained on the scene until 11:48 hours. Units operating on the scene were: Engine 44-1, Engine 44-2, Tower 44, TAC 44, Utility 44, Quint 03, Engine 03-2, Rescue 53, Ambulance 03-7, Medic 106 (Springfield Hospital), Springfield Police and Fire Police and Springfield Township Fire Marshal Car 1. |
