Fire Company Honors Two Members on the 4th Springfield Fire Company honored two members at the 10th annual Springfield Volunteer Memorial Wall ceremony on the Fourth of July. The Volunteer Memorial Wall is located at Saxer Avenue and Powell Road, in the park area of Springfield Volunteer Memorial Field. Each year, ten volunteer organizations within Springfield Township nominate an Exemplary Volunteer to be added to the Memorial Wall. This year, two members from each organization were added to the memorial in honor of the tenth anniversary of the Volunteer Memorial Wall. Richard L. Gildea and John A. Wesley were honored for their years of exemplary service to Springfield Fire Company and the citizens of Springfield Township. Richard Gildea joined Springfield Fire Company on April 24, 1957 and currently is active with the Fire Police as a Sergeant. Sergeant Gildea has held positions within the Fire Company and Fire Police during his 48 years of service. John A. Wesley joined Springfield Fire Company on October 23, 1957 and currently is active with the Fire Police as a Captain. Captain Wesley has held numerous positions within the Fire Company and Fire Police during his 47 years of service. Captain Wesley is also a Life Member of Springfield Ambulance Corps with over 25 years of service. Both honorees continue to be very active members within Springfield Fire Company, helping keep Springfield Firefighters safe at emergency scenes and during special events. After the Springfield Volunteer Memorial Wall Ceremony, the annual Fourth of July parade was held and enjoyed by all in attendance and was well attended by the citizens of Springfield Township. Springfield Fire Company hopes that all citizens had a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July holiday. |
