Two Residents Rescued from House Fire on Lownes Lane
Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on alarm #05-99 on Friday, February 4th, at 23:53 hours to the unit block of Lownes Lane for a Structure Fire with Entrapment. Upon arrival of Springfield Police and Chief 44-9, heavy smoke and fire was showing from a one story home. One resident had escaped the home with assistance from neighbors and stated that her mother was still inside the house. Springfield Police Officers from the #3 Platoon along with neighbors worked to locate the resident who was in a rear bedroom of the home. Police Officers were able to locate the woman thru an open window in the rear of home and removed her from the dwelling when firefighters arrived. Chief 44-9 established Springfield Command as firefighters from Engine 44-4 went into service with an 1 3/4" hose line and worked to bring the fast moving fire under control. Firefighters started an interior search of the dwelling when initial reports stated multiple entrapments inside the home. Firefighters from Tower 44 assisted the firefighters from Engine 44-4 by performing ventilation of the windows and roof area. Firefighters from Engine 44-2 laid a 5" water supply line from Engine 44-4 and assisted on the fireground along with firefighters from Rescue 44. Firefighters from Ladder 43 (Holmes) and Rescue 43-6A initially stood by as the Rapid Intervention Team. Chief 44-9 had Rescue 53 (Broomall) dispatched to assist on the scene as a Rapid Intervention Team when the firefighters from Company 43 were placed into service assisting Springfield Firefighters on the fireground. Ambulance 44-7 transported two residents from the home to Crozer Chester Medical Center with smoke inhalation injuries. Ambulance 44-7A transported one neighbor to Springfield Hospital who suffered smoke inhalation. Two cats also made it out of the fire and were evaluated on the scene and were given to neighbors and relatives. Firefighters remained on the scene until 02:23 hours. The fire is under investigation by the Springfield Township Fire Marshal's Office. Units operating on the scene were: Engine 44-4, Tower 44, Engine 44-2, Rescue 44, TAC 44, Ambulance 44-7 & 7A, Medic 106, Ladder 43, Rescue 43-6A, Ambulance 03-7 (Clifton Heights), Medic 101 (Crozer Supervisor), Springfield Police and Fire Police, and Springfield Township's Fire Marshal (Car 1). Firefighters from Clifton Heights Fire Company and Rescue 73 (Rose Tree) provided stand-by coverage at Station 44 during the fire. |
