Fire on Gleaves Road Damages Home Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on alarm #05-076 on Tuesday, January 25th at 19:44 hours to the 300 block of Gleaves Road for a Dwelling Fire. Upon arrival of Chief 44-9, heavy smoke was showing from a two story split level home and all residents were outside. Engine 44-1 arrived on location and went into service with an 1 3/4" hose line, while the crew from Tower 44 started laddering the building and assisted the crew from Engine 44-1. Engine 44-2 laid a 5" supply line from a hydrant at Gleaves Road and Lester Road to Engine 44-1. Firefighters from Engine 44-2, Rescue 44 and Engine 44-4 assisted with manpower and ventilation. Firefighters quickly located and controlled the fire in the lower level of the residence, containing the fire to the one room. Firefighters from Snorkel 23 (Media) stood by as the Rapid Intervention Team during the fire. The fire is under investigation by the Springfield Township Fire Marshal's Office and it appears to be accidental. Springfield Fire Company would like to the thank the residents in the area of Lester Road and Gleaves Road that had cleared the hydrant of snow after the recent snow storm. Their actions made the job for firefighters a little easier. Firefighters remained on the scene until 21:15 hours. Units operating on the scene were: Engine 44-1, Tower 44, Engine 44-2, Rescue 44, Engine 44-4, Snorkel 23, Ambulance 44-7A, Medic 106, Springfield Police and Fire Police. |
