Deep Fryer Damages Garage on Timbertrail Lane Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Sunday, January 16th at 13:33 hours to the 700 block of Timbertrail Lane for a Dwelling Fire. Upon arrival of Chief 44-9B, a deep fryer being used next to the garage of the home caught fire and damaged the attached garage. Quick thinking by residents using a fire extinguisher contained the fire until firefighters arrived. Firefighters from Engine 44-1 and Tower 44 checked the garage area for any fire extension using thermal imaging cameras. No residents were injured by the fire but the garage area of the dwelling sustained minor fire and smoke damage. As these deep fryers are becoming more popular, Springfield Fire Company would like to make all residents aware that there are certain safety precautions that must be taken when using these cooking appliances. Check out the Underwriters Laboratories, Inc website for product safety information on Turkey deep fryers.
