House Fire on Morton Avenue in Rutledge

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Tuesday, December 21st at 13:25 hours to assist Company 13 (Rutledge) at 409 South Morton Avenue for a House Fire.  The initial dispatched sent apparatus to a Morton Avenue address in Morton Borough.  Responding units were redirected to the address in Rutledge Borough.

First arriving units had fire and heavy smoke showing from the first floor of a three story house.  Firefighters from Engine 13-1, Engine 11-2 (Morton) and Tower 44 started an interior attack on the first floor while firefighters from Tower 14 (Swarthmore) started ventilation.

The fire extended to the second and third floors thru the walls of the home.  The home did not have fire stops in the walls (balloon frame construction).  Firefighters worked to gain control the fire on multiple floors.  Additional units from Company 49 (Milmont), Company 18 (Folsom) and Company 52 (Brookhaven Air Bank) assisted on the scene.

Firefighters performed extensive overhaul operations to open up all the walls and locate any fire.

Springfield Firefighters remained on the scene until 16:00 hours.  Company 03 (Clifton) and Company 43 (Holmes) provided stand-by coverage at Station 44 during the incident.

Companies operating on the scene were:  Company 13, Company 11, Company 44, Company 14, Company 49 (Rapid Intervention Team), Company 18, Company 52 (Air Bank), Medic 102, Ambulance 14-7.
