Head-On Crash on West Woodland Avenue

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on alarm #04-803 on Thursday, October 21st, at 02:36 hours, for a Motor Vehicle Accident with Entrapment on West Woodland Avenue at Rhoads Drive.  Springfield Police were on location with a two vehicle head-on accident with subjects trapped and one subject on the roadway.

Medic 106 (Springfield Hospital) arrived on location and requested two additional medic units and two additional ambulances to assist on the scene.  TAC 44 arrived on location and stabilized the vehicles and started extrication of the driver of one vehicle.  Firefighters from Rescue 44 assisted the crew from TAC 44 with the extrication operation.

Medical personnel from Ambulance 44-7, 44-7A, Ambulance 53-7A (Marple), Ambulance 23-7 (Media), Medic 102 (Taylor Hospital), Medic 102B, Medic 53, Medic 104-7 (Riddle Hospital) all assisted on the scene.  Three subjects were transported to Crozer Chester Medical Center's Trauma Unit and one subject was flown by PennStar Medical Helicopter to the University of Pennsylvania's Trauma Unit.  Engine 14-2 (Swarthmore) stood by the Landing Zone for PennStar at Beatty Road and West Sproul Road.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 04:30 hours assisting the Police Department with their investigation.

Units operating on the scene were:  TAC 44, Rescue 44, Ambulance 44-7, 44-7A, Ambulance 53-7A, Ambulance 23-7, Medic 106, Medic 102, Medic 102B, Medic 104-7, Medic 53, Engine 14-2, Springfield Police and Fire Police.
