Springfield Firefighters competed in the 2004 Delaware County Firefighter's Competition at Rose Tree Park on Saturday, September 11th and came home with the top prize, the Choice Marketing Delco CUP.  The Springfield Team members were:  Captain Edward Abel Jr., Lieutenant Michael Huczko, Lieutenant Matthew LeTourneau, Firefighter William Lavery, and Firefighter Stuart Ross.

Springfield Firefighters competed in all four events and received awards in each event.  The day started off with the Hand Line Scramble in which Springfield took home the first place award.  The Springfield team then competed in the Deck Gun Scramble and finished in second place.

After a very short break, three of the team members challenged the Iron Man Competition.  The three man team, which consisted of Lieutenant Michael Huczko, Lieutenant Matthew LeTourneau and Firefighter Stuart Ross, took second place in the event and one member of the team, Firefighter Stuart Ross, finished with the best time in the Iron Man Competition.  The Springfield Team finished up the days events by competing in the Bucket Brigade event.  The event has two teams competing at the same time but the teams are competing for the overall best time.  Springfield's Team was placed along side last years overall Champion Broomall Fire Company for this event.  The Broomall team ended up with the best time in this event and Springfield's Firefighters finished in third place.

Springfield Firefighters brought home a total of 6 trophies, but the biggest trophy from the event will call Springfield Fire Company home for the next year, the Choice Marketing Delco CUP.

Springfield Fire Company would like to congratulate all the teams that competed in this year's competition and the event coordinators for running another great competition.  The competition raised over $2000 for the Fallen Firefighters Memorial that will be erected at Rose Tree Park in the near future.  All final times for the competition have been posted on DelcoFireRescueNews.com.

Springfield Fire Company looks forward to 2005 when we will get our chance to defend the CUP.
