Van Fire Damages Dwelling on Timbertrail Lane Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Wednesday, September 1st, at 13:02 hours to the 700 block of Timbertrail Lane for a Vehicle Fire with a possible exposure problem to a house. Upon arrival of Chief 44-9, a van was fully involved with fire in the driveway of a residence and the side of the home was starting to burn. Chief 44-9 had the assignment upgraded to a Building Fire which dispatched Company 53 (Broomall) and Company 23 (Media) for the Rapid Intervention Team. Engine 44-4 arrived on location and went into service with two 1 3/4" hose lines. While extinguishing the van fire, the gasoline tank failed and gasoline started flowing down the driveway and into the street on fire. Firefighters used the hose line and dry chemical extinguishers to contain the fuel fire. The second 1 3/4" hose line was used to control the fire on the outside of the house and assisted with extinguishment of the van fire. Engine 44-2 arrived on location and supplied Engine 44-4 with a 5" supply line from a hydrant on Ridge Lane. Firefighters from Snorkel 53 and Engine 53-2 assisted on the scene manpower. Firefighters checked for any possible fire extension inside the dwelling. Firefighters from Rescue 23 stood by as the Rapid Intervention Team and then assisted with overhaul operations after the fire was placed under control. The van was a total loss and damage to the residence was contained to the exterior of the home with some minor smoke damage inside. Firefighters remained on the scene until 14:30 hours. Units operating on the scene were: Engine 44-4, Engine 44-2, Snorkel 53, Engine 53-2, Rescue 23, Ambulance 44-7, Medic 106 (Springfield Hospital), Springfield Police, Fire Police, Springfield Township's Fire Marshal (Car 1) and Springfield Township Code Enforcement. |
