Car Hits Utility Pole and More

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on alarm #04-506 on Saturday, July 24th, ay 02:27 hours to the 1200 Block of Providence Road for a Motor Vehicle Accident with Fire.  Upon arrival of Springfield Police, one vehicle had struck a utility pole, splitting it in half and damaged numerous residential mailboxes along the side of road in the process.  The engine compartment was on fire and an off-duty firefighter and police used a fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire.

Upon arrival of TAC 44, firefighters assisted Springfield Police with securing the area and lighting.  Firefighters checked the vehicle, spread oil dry on fluids on the roadway, and finished extinguishing the small fire in the engine compartment.  Ambulance 44-7 and Medic 106 (Springfield Hospital) evaluated the driver of the vehicle, who has transported to Springfield Hospital for a minor injury.

Firefighters remained on the scene until PECO Energy arrived.  Springfield Police Department is investigating the accident.
