Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Friday, July 9th, at 16:18 hours to assist Company 51 (South Media Fire Company) at the scene of a Working House Fire on Rose Valley Road in Nether Providence Township.

Firefighters from Company 51 and Company 65 (Garden City) were initially dispatched for House Fire with possible entrapment.  They arrived on location with heavy smoke and fire showing from a 4 story dwelling and all the residents had evacuated the residence.  The dwelling was setback off the roadway approximately 1000' and made access to the building difficult.

Firefighters attacked the fire from the exterior initially as heavy fire was on the outside of "Side D" of the dwelling and spreading up to the top floors.  An interior attack was also made to try and gain control of the fire.  Firefighters were pulled from the building when the fire was gaining control of the top floor (fourth floor) and they were not making progress into the area because of extreme heat conditions.  Ladder 65-5 set-up a ladder pipe master stream to gain control of the fire on the fourth floor area.  Once firefighters gained control of the fire on the fourth floor, firefighter reentered the structure to perform salvage and overhaul operations and worked to extinguish hot spots throughout the upper floors.

The fire heavily damaged the home and firefighters worked under extreme conditions to gain the upper hand on this fast moving fire.

Fire Companies working on the scene were:  Company 51, Company 65, Company 23 (Media), Company 73 (Rose Tree), Company 52 (Brookhaven), Company 50 (Middletown), Company 14 (Swarthmore), Company 44, Company 45 (Parkside - RIT Team), Company 47 (Feltonville Canteen), North Penn Canteen (Souderton, Mont. Co.), Medic 104-7, Nether Providence Police and Fire Marshal's Office, Sixth District Fire Police and Pennsylvania State Police.

Numerous Fire Companies assisted with stand-by coverage at the firehouses of companies called into the scene.

Firefighters remained on the scene past 21:00 hours continuing to extinguish hot spots.
