Busy End of the Week for Springfield's Firefighters Springfield's Firefighters stayed busy during the end of the week responding on several serious emergencies. Each incident was handled in a timely and professional manner and truly tested the skills of Springfield's Firefighters.
Thursday evening Springfield Fire Company was just clearing an emergency on Ballymore Road when they were dispatched to Interstate 476 @ Beatty Road for a Motor Vehicle Accident with Entrapment. Springfield Firefighters worked with South Media Fire Company to quickly stabilize and extricate the driver from a passenger van that had overturned numerous times on the highway. The driver was transported by Ambulance 44-7 and Medic 106 (Springfield Hospital) to an area hospital for evaluation. The following evening, Friday, June 25th, Springfield Fire Company was dispatched to assist Clifton Heights Fire Company (Company 03) in the 200 block of Fairview Road, Clifton Heights, for a Structure Fire. Firefighters from Company 03, Company 74 (Primos Secane Westbrook Park), Company 19 (Lansdowne) and Company 44 worked on the scene battling a basement fire inside the residence. The first-in firefighters from Company 03 were able to quickly contain the blaze and minimize damage to the dwelling. Springfield Firefighters assisted with operations on the first floor, checking for fire extension, ventilation and salvage and overhaul operations. While clearing the call in Clifton Heights, Springfield Fire Company was dispatched to West Springfield Road and State Road for a Motor Vehicle Accident. Upon arrival of Chief 44-9, the call was upgraded to an Accident with Entrapment and the location changed to West Springfield Road and Longview Drive.. Firefighters from TAC 44, Rescue 44 and Engine 44-1 stabilized both vehicles involved in the accident and extricated one driver using the Hurst Rescue equipment. Firefighters finished up the busy week's end by handling a Propane Truck emergency at the Springfield Mall. Initially dispatched at 11:55 hours on Saturday, June 26th, Springfield Firefighters were encountered with a Propane Truck that was filling a tank at the Springfield Mall when a hose connection could not be disconnected from the tank. A plan was made to leave the truck and hose in place and isolate the area until later in the evening. Once the Mall was closed, firefighters returned at 23:20 hours to the scene and stood by while representatives from the Propane Truck Company handled the problem with the hose connection. Firefighters from Springfield Fire Company, Swarthmore Fire Company and Media Fire Company stood by with hose lines during the incident in case any fire situation or propane leak was to occur. The problem was corrected without incident and no injuries. |
