Anatomy of Electric Shock
Keith D. Thomas, Senior Specialist, PECO Energy Fire Academy, Springfield, PA
It is critical to understand the amount of electrical current that it takes for someone to receive an electrical shock (tingling sensation) up to the amount that it takes someone to receive a fatal shock (change in heart rhythm). Each person has a different amount of electrical resistance, which may have a different effect with the same set of circumstances. High voltage, low voltage, Ohms law, duration, area, moisture, and the amount of pressure you place on an electrical conductor will be discussed.
