Assist to Swarthmore on Accident with Multiple Entrapment

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched along with South Media Fire Company (Company 51) to assist Swarthmore Fire Company (Company 14) on North Chester Road at Oakdale Place for a three car accident with occupants trapped in two vehicles.

Medic 102 arrived on the scene and reported a three vehicle accident with subjects trapped in two vehicles and requested the rescue assignment to be dispatched.

Engine 14-2 (Swarthmore) arrived on the scene and started stabilization of the vehicles and medical personnel started treating the occupants of the vehicles.

Rescue 44 arrived on location and started extrication on both vehicles.  The passenger side door of one vehicle and the driver-side door of the second vehicle were removed, using the Hurst rescue equipment and saw zalls, to allow for removal of the occupants.

One occupant was flown by Pennstar's medical helicopter to the University of Pennsylvania Trauma Center and another occupant was transported to Crozer Chester Medical Center's Trauma Center.

The accident is under investigation by Swarthmore Police and Delaware County CID.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 20:40 hours.

Units operating on the scene were:  Engine 14-2, Rescue 44, TAC 44, Rescue 51, Ambulance 14-7, Ambulance 44-7 & 44-7A, Ambulance 23-7A (Media), Medic 102 (Taylor Hospital), Medic 102B, Medic 101 (Crozer Supervisor) Swarthmore, Nether Providence and Springfield Police and Sixth District Fire Police.
