From Firefighters to Furniture Movers

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on alarm #04-067 on Friday, January 30th, at 16:51 hours to the 800 block of West Rolling Road for a Residential Rescue.

Upon arrival of Lieutenant 44-13B and Chief 44-9B, two furniture movers had a 500 lb. piece of furniture stuck halfway up the stairway to the second floor and were physically unable to move the furniture any further.  The homeowners had called Springfield Police when they were unsuccessful, after two hours on the phone, with the furniture store to get them to send more help.  The workers were getting physically tired from holding the piece of furniture that entire time and the homeowner was unable to assist them.

Rescue 44 arrived on the scene and personnel from the Fire Company and Police Department moved the piece of furniture up the remaining way.  Medical personnel checked out the workers to make sure they were ok.

Springfield Fire Company regrets to inform residents that our furniture moving team is not available for routine moving appointments.

Units on the scene were:  Rescue 44, Ambulance 44-7, Medic 106 (Springfield Hospital) and Springfield Police Department.
