Firefighters Extricate Two in Morning Accident on the Pike

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on alarm #03-938 on Friday, December 12th, at 08:43 hours for a Motor Vehicle Accident with Entrapment at Baltimore Pike and Saxer Avenue.  Upon arrival of Chief 44-9 and Springfield Police, there was a two vehicle accident in the intersection, one car was broadsided by second vehicle and both drivers were trapped.

TAC 44 arrived on the scene and stabilized both vehicles and started patient assessment.  Firefighters from TAC 44 and Rescue 44 used the Hurst Maverick tool to remove the driver-side door of one vehicle and the driver and passenger side doors of the other vehicle to allow for removal of both drivers.

Firefighters assisted Ambulance 44-7, 44-7A and Medic 106 (Springfield Hospital) with patient care and removal of the drivers from the vehicles.  One driver was transported to Crozer Chester Medical Center and the other driver was transported to Springfield Hospital.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 09:28 hours.

Units operating on the scene were:  TAC 44, Rescue 44, Ambulance 44-7 & 44-7A, Medic 106, Springfield Police and Fire Police.
