Two Alarm Dwelling Fire on Edwards Drive

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on alarm # 03-820 along with Primos Secane Westbrook Park Fire Company (Company 74) on Monday, November, 3rd, at 11:28 hours for a Dwelling Fire in the 900 Block of Edwards Drive.  The call came through the County 911 center from a local oil company driver in the neighborhood.  Upon arrival of Springfield Police Department, heavy smoke and fire was showing from the two story split level dwelling.  Chief 44-9 had Company 03 (Clifton Heights) added to the initial assignment.

Engine 44-1 arrived on the scene along with Tower 74 and both crews forced entry into the home and started an interior attack on the fire in the attic area.

Chief 44-9 established Springfield Command and called for additional resources from Company 14 (Swarthmore), Company 11 (Morton), Company 13 (Rutledge), Company 43 (Holmes) for the Rapid Intervention Team, Company 52 (Brookhaven) for the Air Bank, and North Penn Goodwill Canteen, Montgomery County.

No residents were home at the time of the fire.  Firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions in the attic area of the home.  Firefighters placed 4 - 1 3/4" hose lines into service and also ventilated the roof area of the home.  Engine 44-1 connected to a hydrant directly in front of the dwelling with a 5" supply line.

The fire was brought under control within 1 hour and firefighters remained on the scene until 15:00 hours providing salvage and overhaul operations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Springfield Township's Fire Marshal's Office.

Units operating on the scene were:  Engine 44-1, Tower 74, Tower 44, Quint 03, Engine 03-2, Engine 74-1, Engine 44-2, Rescue 44, Tower 14, Engine 11-1, Engine 13-2, Rescue 52, Ladder 43, Utility 74, TAC 44, North Penn Goodwill Canteen, Ambulance 44-7, Medic 103-7B, Medic 106, Ambulance 14-7, Springfield Police and Fire Police.

Media Fire Company and Rose Tree Fire Company provided stand-by coverage at Station 44 during the fire and also handled three emergencies while on the cover-up assignment.
