Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on alarm #03-814, along with Swarthmore Fire Company, on Saturday, November 1st, at 16:57 hours to 1000 Block of Harvard Avenue for a Structure Fire.  This call is in the two block area of Springfield Township long South Chester Road, south of Swarthmore Borough.   Upon arrival of Tower 14, medium smoke was showing from the residence and the homeowner was reporting a fire in the basement.

Tower 14 went into service with an 1 3/4" hose line and quickly located and extinguished the fire in the basement.  Firefighters from Engine 14-1, Engine 44-1, Tower 44 and Engine 14-2 assisted with ventilation.  The fire was contained to a dryer unit in the basement.

This was the second time in less than three years that firefighters responded to this residence for a fire.  In April, 2001, firefighters responded to the residence for a working basement fire that severely damaged the structure.  The second fire caused very minor damage.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 18:05 hours.

Units operating on the scene were:  Tower 14, Engine 14-1, Engine 44-1, Tower 44, Engine 14-2, Engine 44-2, Ambulance 14-7, Medic 106 (Springfield Hospital), Swarthmore and Springfield Police, and Springfield Fire Police.
