Springfield Assists Broomall on Lorraine Drive House Fire

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Alarm #03-733 on Thursday, October 2nd, at 07:30 hours to assist Broomall Fire Company in the 800 Block of Lorraine Drive for a Working House Fire.  Upon arrival of Chief 53-9, heavy smoke was showing from the dwelling and the occupants were reporting that there was a fire in the basement.

Telesqurt 53 arrived on location and went into service with an 1 1/2" hose line.  Firefighters had fire showing from the first floor window and heavy smoke coming from the basement area.  Firefighters made an aggressive attack on the fire on the first floor and advanced the hose line to the rear of the house to attack the fire in the basement area.  Engine 53-2 laid a 5" supply line from the hydrant at Crum Creek Road and Winchester Road to Telesqurt 53.

Firefighters from Rescue 53, Quint 73, Engine 44-1, Rescue 73, Snorkel 53 assisted the interior crews and provided ventilation.  Firefighters from Telesqurt 53, battling high heat and heavy smoke conditions, were able to contain the fast moving fire in the basement area.

The dwelling sustained extensive damage in the basement and first floor areas.  Firefighters performed extensive salvage and overhaul operations checking for any possible fire extension.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 10:51 hours.

Units operating on the scene were:  Telesqurt 53, Engine 53-2, Rescue 53, Snorkel 53, Quint 73, Rescue 73, Engine 44-1, Ambulance 53-7, Ambulance 56-7, Medic 53, Marple Police and Fire Police.
