Firefighters responded on Alarm #03-683 in the CVS Parking Lot, 344 Baltimore Pike, Thursday evening at 21:08 hours when a tree came down on a parked car with one person still inside the vehicle.  Firefighters from TAC 44, Rescue 44 and Engine 44-1 arrived on the scene, stabilized the vehicle and the tree limb, used chain saws to gain access to the person and then assisted the driver from the vehicle.  The driver was transported to Springfield Hospital by Ambulance 44-7 for observation.

Springfield Firefighters responded on Alarm #03-691 at 04:45 hours on Friday, September 19th, for a Dwelling Fire in the unit block of Greenhill Road.  A large tree had come down onto numerous wires, knocking down a live wire which started a fire on the front porch of one dwelling.

Engine 44-1 arrived on the scene and called for a priority response from PECO Energy.  Firefighters from Engine 44-1 accounted for all residents and worked to set-up a safety zone because of the live electrical wires.  Chief 44-9 arrived on the scene and established command and had the call upgraded to a Working Structure Fire.

Firefighters set-up an 1 3/4" hose line inside the dwelling but could not use the line until power was secured.  Firefighters from Tower 44 and Engine 44-2 assisted the crew from Engine 44-1.  Firefighters utilized dry chemical extinguishers to keep the fire from spreading while PECO Energy continued to try and secure the power.

Once power was secured, firefighters quickly brought the fire under control.  The front porch of the home sustained fire damage, while the home sustained moderate smoke damage.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 07:45 hours.

Units operating on the fire scene were:  Engine 44-1, Tower 44, Engine 44-2, Rescue 44, Ambulance 44-, Medic 106 (Springfield Hospital), Springfield Police and Fire Police and Springfield Township's Fire Marshal.

Firefighters from Springfield Fire Company would like to thank all the residents of Springfield Township for their assistance in dealing with the emergencies related to Hurricane Isabel.  By quickly calling 911 and waiting for emergency responders to handle the incident, no one was injured.
