Busy Saturday for Springfield Firefighters

Springfield Firefighters were keep busy during the day on Saturday, September 13th.  Springfield Fire Company started off the day by providing stand-by coverage for Swarthmore Fire Company with Engine 44-1 from 10:00 hours to 16:00 hours while they celebrated the housing of Tower 14.

Springfield Fire Company members visited Springfield Ford, 50 Baltimore Pike, around 12:00 hours to visit with Driver Jamie Mosley, #39 car in NASCAR Busch Series, Chip Lillie, Vice President Choice Marketing, and Paul Hummel, Concordville Fire Company.  The #39 car was on display from 10:00 hours to 14:00 hours and Jamie was signing autographs for fans.  Visitors also had an opportunity to sign the #39 car after making a donation to the "Bill Hammond Fund".  The #39 and the Mosley Team also participated in the Friends of Bill Hammond benefit at Concordville Fire Company Saturday evening from 18:00 hours to 22:00 hours.

Springfield Fire Company participated in Swarthmore Fire and Protective Association's housing ceremony for Tower 14.  Tower 14, a 2002 Pierce Tower Ladder, was housed in a traditional fire service ceremony.  Tower 14 was dedicated in honor of Richard D. Shoaf Jr. of the Swarthmore Fire and Protective Association, who died in the Line of Duty on August 18th, 2001.  The Springfield Fire Company would like to congratulate Swarthmore Fire Company on the housing of Tower 14.

Springfield Fire Company also visited a local block party during the day on Saturday.  Residents of the 100 block of Morton Road had an opportunity to see Rescue 44 up close and ask any questions about Springfield Fire Company.  The kids, as well as the adults, received some fire prevention tips before getting a chance to climb on the truck and see all the tools that Rescue 44 carries.  Springfield Fire Company would like to thank the residents of Morton Road for the donation to the Fire Company.

Springfield Firefighters finished up the day by heading out to Concordville Fire Company for the Friends of Bill Hammond Benefit.  The benefit was held to help out fellow firefighter Bill Hammond who was severely injured in a hunting accident and now requires the use of a wheelchair.  All proceeds from the benefit will go towards Bill's rehabilitation and associated expenses.   Springfield Fire Company provided stand-by coverage along with Media Fire Company and Brookhaven Fire Company from 20:00 hours to 24:00 hours so the members of Concordville Fire Company could run the benefit.  Springfield Fire Company would like to congratulate Concordville Fire Company, the Friends of Bill Hammond and Bill Hammond on great evening of fun and a successful evening for a great firefighter and great friend to many.  Anyone wishing to contribute to the Bill Hammond Fund, contact Concordville Fire Company at (610) 459-4749 or visit www.concordville.org .
