Vehicle Strikes Tree, Firefighters Extricate Passenger

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Friday, August 1st, 23:59 hours to Garden Road and Lynn Road for a Motor Vehicle Accident.  Upon arrival of Springfield Police and Chief 44-9, one vehicle had crashed head on into a tree in the front yard of house in the 200 Block of Lynn Road and the front seat passenger was still trapped inside the vehicle.  Chief 44-9 had the call upgraded to a Motor Vehicle Accident with Entrapment.

TAC 44 arrived on the scene and stabilized the vehicle and started the rescue operation.  EMS personnel from Ambulance 44-7A and Medic 106 assisted with patient care for the trapped passenger and checked out the driver of the vehicle who was out of the vehicle upon arrival of rescue personnel.  Rescue 44 assisted the crew from TAC 44.

Firefighters cleared the tree limbs away from the car to gain access to the vehicle.  Firefighters had to remove both front doors and a portion of the roof using the Hurst Maverick rescue tools from TAC 44 and Rescue 44.  Firefighters then used the Hurst RAM tools to push the dashboard of the vehicle off the passenger to free his trapped leg.

Ambulance 44-7A and Medic 106 transported the passenger to Crozer Chester Medical Center's Trauma Unit.  The driver of the vehicle was transported by Ambulance 14-7 (Swarthmore) to Springfield Hospital.

Firefighters remained on the scene assisting the Police Department with lighting for the investigation.

Firefighters remained on scene until 01:30 hours.

Units operating on the scene were:  TAC 44, Rescue 44, Ambulance 44-7A, Medic 106, Ambulance 14-7 and Springfield Police Department.
