Springfield Fire Company participated in the dedication of the Eighth Annual Plaque for the Springfield Volunteer Memorial on Friday, July 4th.  The Plaque honors members from eight different volunteer organizations in Springfield Township for 2003.

Springfield Fire Company honored Theodore "Ted" H. Green.  Ted first joined the Fire Company in 1938.  He held numerous positions within the Fire Company and was Chief of the Fire Company for 2 years from 1957 to 1959.  Springfield Fire Company was honored to recognize Ted Green as the Springfield Fire Company Exemplary Volunteer for 2003, for his years of exemplary service to Springfield Fire Company and the citizens of Springfield Township.

A group of local volunteers formed the non-profit Springfield Volunteer Memorial Fund, Inc. to promote community service through the recognition of exemplary volunteers.  The Memorial was constructed through the donation of materials and skills by local suppliers and craftsmen, and contributions of funds for the bronze plaques by local community organizations, businesses and individuals.  Each year a plaque is added to the Memorial listing the names of exemplary volunteers nominated for the honor by their community service organizations.  The Memorial Wall is located on the former site of the Old Central School (Saxer Avenue and Powell Road).  The site is now a recreation field named Springfield Volunteer Memorial Field by the Springfield School District Board of Directors.

Contributions to the Memorial Fund can be mailed to:  Springfield Volunteer Memorial Fund, Inc. , c/o 47 Old State Road, Springfield, PA  19064.

After the ceremony the Fire Company participated in the annual Springfield Township Fourth of July Parade.
