End of the Week Busy for Springfield Firefighters Springfield Firefighters were kept busy at the end of the week into the weekend. Starting Thursday morning and continuing through Sunday afternoon, Springfield Fire Company responded on 21 different emergencies. The nature of the calls ranged from Fire Alarms, a Trash Fire, Wires Calls, Residential and Commercial Building Fires, Motor Vehicle Accidents, a Pedestrian Struck, Odor Investigations and a Vehicle Fire.
One Commercial Building Fire was the California Tanning Salon at 533 Baltimore Pike on Thursday, June 11th at 21:08 hours. After severe storms rolled through the area, an electrical fire started in the rear utility room of the tanning salon. Firefighters quickly arrived and controlled the situation. Firefighters ventilated the store and also checked three other stores in the shopping center for any problems. Saturday evening at 19:56 hours, the Company was dispatched to the Houlihan's Restaurant, 910 East Woodland Avenue, for a Building Fire. Firefighters had a light haze inside the building and firefighters checked the roof area for possible problems with the HVAC system. The units were found to the problem and there were shut down until they could be repaired. Over the weekend Springfield Firefighters were called out twice to the Springfield North Shopping Center, 1000 block of Baltimore Pike, for fumes inside the building. Painters working in the new Pier One Imports site caused fumes to build up inside most of the shopping center. On Saturday and Sunday firefighters provided ventilation in all the effected stores. On Sunday at 11:07 hours, while still operating at Springfield North Shopping Center, Springfield Firefighters were dispatched to the 200 Block of Saxer Avenue for a Motor Vehicle Accident. One car had struck a Utility Pole and the driver was in serious condition. Springfield Firefighters assisted EMS and secured the scene until PECO arrived. All in a few days work. |
