Assist to Swarthmore on Apartment Fire Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Friday, April 4th, at 11:09 hours to assist Swarthmore Fire Company (Company 14) at 114 Park Avenue, Swarthmore Borough, for an Apartment Fire. Upon arrival of Swarthmore Police, smoke was showing from an apartment on the second floor front-side of the apartment building. Engine 14-1 arrived on the scene and went into service with an 1 3/4" hoseline while firefighters hooked up to a hydrant that was 100' from the fire building. Tower 14 assisted Engine 14-1 and started ventilation and laddering of the building. Company 14 firefighters started a primary search of the second floor and were assisted by firefighters from Tower 44. While conducting a primary search of the second floor apartments, firefighters from Tower 44 forced entry into an apartment on the second floor and had the occupant of the apartment still inside. The occupant was assisted out of the building and firefighters finished the search of the building. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack on the fire and contained it to the one apartment. The building sustained smoke damage throughout. Firefighters checked for fire extension using numerous Thermal Imaging Cameras and also conducted extensive salvage and overhaul operations. Firefighters remained on the scene until 12:56 hours. Units operating on the scene were: Engine 14-1, Tower 14, Tower 44, Engine 13-1 (Rutledge), Engine 44-1, Rescue 44, Rescue 53 (Broomall - RIT Team), Medic 102 & 102-7 (Taylor Hospital), Engine 11-1, Swarthmore Police and 6th District Fire Police. |
