Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Sunday, March 2nd, at 03:54 hours to assist Media Fire Company (Company 23) on a Working Structure Fire at 400 West Jefferson Street, Media Borough.

Upon arrival of units from Media Police, smoke was showing from inside a two story duplex building and Fireboard was notified of a Working Fire at that location.  Chief 23-9A arrived on scene, established Command and issued the second alarm.

Squrt 23 laid a 5" supply line into the scene and started an interior attack, while Quint 73 (Rose Tree) set-up in a side parking lot and laddered the roof.  Firefighters from Quint 73 and Snorkel 23 had to ladder the second floor apartment to gain access as the fire had destroyed the interior stairs to the second floor area.  Firefighters from Tower 44 assisted with laddering the building and ventilation on the roof.  Rescue 41 (Newtown Square) stood by as the Rapid Intervention Team.

Firefighters were able to quickly gain control of the fire.   The fire appears to have started in the basement area and destroyed the interior stairwell as it extended into the second floor area.

Firefighters remained on scene until 07:15 hours.

The fire is under investigation.
