Basement Fire Damages Home

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Wednesday, February 18th, at 10:45 hours to 320 Hawarden Road for a Structure Fire.  Clifton Heights Fire Company (Company 03) was also dispatched on the assignment.

Chief 44-9 arrived on scene with smoke showing from the eves on the second floor of the residence.  Engine 44-1 laid a 5" supply line into the scene and went into service with an 1 3/4" hoseline.  Firefighters encountered heavy smoke conditions throughout the residence and quickly worked to locate the fire in the basement of the residence.

Engine 44-2 hooked up to supply line at the hydrant at Hillview Road and Wayne Avenue.  The supply line was not charged because firefighters were able to quickly locate and contain the fire to the basement area.

Firefighters from Engine 03-2, Quint 03, Tower 44 and Engine 44-2 assisted on the scene with ventilation, salvage and overhaul operations.   Fire damage was limited to the basement and basement stairway and smoke damage throughout the residence.

The fire is under investigation by Springfield Township Fire Marshal and appears to be electrical in nature.

Springfield Fire Company would like to remind Township residents to please clear snow from any fire hydrant that is on their property or help neighboring residents clear the hydrant in their neighborhood.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 12:29 hours.

Units operating on the scene were Engine 44-1, Engine 44-2, Tower 44, Engine 03-2, Quint 03, Ambulance 44-7, Medic 106 (Springfield Hospital Paramedic), Springfield Police and Fire Police, and Springfield Township Fire Marshal
