Veterans of Foreign Wars Loyalty Day 2002

Veterans of Foreign Wars, Springfield-Delco Post # 5705, held their 10th Annual Loyalty Day Program on Saturday, May4th at 10:00 hours at the Springfield Township Municipal Building.  The Loyalty Day Program is in held in memory of the departed veterans of Post #5705 and Springfield Township.

Each year Post #5705 honors one member of the Springfield Ambulance Corps, Springfield Fire Company and Springfield Police Department for service to the citizens of Springfield Township.  The honorees for 2002 were:

Firefighter of the Year:    J. Lee Fulton

E.M.S. Person of the Year:    Anne M. Phillips

Policeman of the Year:    Sgt. Michael P. Vaughn

The VOD Essay Winner for 2002 was Christopher D'Esposito.

Speakers for the Loyalty Day Program included: Honorable Curt Weldon, U.S. House of Representatives, Honorable Edwin "Ted" Erickson, Senator, State of Pennsylvania, Honorable William F. Adolph, Jr., Pa State Representative, Michael Puppio, President, Springfield Commissioners, Jeanne Hauslein, President, Ladies Auxiliary, VFW #5705.

The Master of Ceremonies for the program was Harry Yeager and the Invocation was by Post Chaplain, Robert Kepner.

The First Day of May is designated as Loyalty Day in the United States, by an act of Congress.  The Loyalty Day services are an occasion which all Americans who served in the armed forces are remembered by their fellow citizens.
