A SEPTA Bus goes out of control and crashes into the Springfield Ice Rink on Tuesday, April 30th, at 18:50 hours..  One good thing about this call was that it was only a drill.

Springfield Firefighters participated in this Mass Casualty Drill that was staged by the Office of Emergency Management for Springfield Township.

Springfield Firefighters worked with EMS personnel from Springfield Ambulance, Marple Township Ambulance, Clifton Heights Fire Company, Springfield Hospital Paramedics, Taylor Hospital Paramedics, and Springfield Police and Fire Police.  All agencies worked to free 13 injured subjects from the SEPTA bus that had crashed into the Ice Rink at the Springfield Country Club.

This training exercise is intended to strengthen the skills of all emergency personnel involved and to help identify areas that need to be improved upon to better prepare the rescuers for a true emergency.

Personnel from Springfield Township Emergency Management Office and SEPTA worked together to coordinate the training exercise.   Members of Springfield Scout Troop 227, Covenant Methodist Church, participated as victims for the drill.

Units operating at the drill were:  TAC 44, Rescue 44. Engine 44-1, Ambulance 44-7 & 44-7A, Ambulance 53-7, Ambulance 03-7, Medic 106, Medic 102 and Springfield Police and Fire Police.

Units remained on the scene until 20:30 hours.
