Assist to Swarthmore on House Fire

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Saturday, June 22, at 13:24 hours to assist Swarthmore Fire Company at 55 Dogwood Lane for a House Fire.  County 911 had received numerous calls from the neighborhood reporting a house on fire.  Upon arrival of units from Company 14 (Swarthmore), heavy smoke was showing from the house and fire was showing from a side entrance to the structure.

Engine 14-1 started an interior attack with 1 3/4" hoselines on the fire that was located in the basement of the 2 1/2 story dwelling.  Tower 44 positioned in the side driveway and went into service with a back-up 1 3/4" hoseline and started ventilation and laddering the building.  Engine 13-1 (Rutledge) laid a 5" supply line to Engine 14-1 and Engine 44-2 hooked up to the hydrant to supplement the supply.

Engine 11-1 (Morton) supplied a 5" line to Tower 44 and firefighters from Engine 14-2, Engine 13-1, Ladder 65 (Garden City), and Engine 44-2 assisted on the interior hoselines.

The fire was quickly brought under control and extensive overhaul was performed to check for an fire extension.  Additional resources were called to the scene to provide additional manpower because of the warm weather.  Additional ambulance companies were also called to the scene to assist with firefighter rehab and hospital transportation.
