Company 44 Assists Clifton Heights on East Madison Avenue

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on April 1st at 13:50 hours,  along with Clifton Heights (Company 03), Primos Secane Westbrook Park (Company 74) and Lansdowne (Company 19) Fire Companies, to 33 East Madison Avenue, Clifton Heights for a Structure Fire.

Upon arrival of Quint 03, heavy smoke and fire was showing from the third floor of a three story residential twin.  Chief 03-9 had Quint 03 go into service with an 1 3/4" hoseline.  Engine 74-1 laid a 5" supply line from the hydrant at South Springfield Road and Madison Avenue to Quint 03.   Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions in the third floor front bedroom of the home.

Firefighters from Engine 44-1 and Pipeline 19 assisted with a secondary line inside the dwelling.  The secondary line was placed into service on the second floor where the fire originated in the walls of the structure.   Firefighters from Quint 03 and Engine 44-1 laddered the building in the front, while Ladder 19 positioned in a rear alley to ladder the roof and provide vertical ventilation.

The balloon frame construction of the building allowed the fire to spread up through the walls to the third floor and into the adjoining twin.  Firefighters did an excellent job of opening up walls and stopping the fire before it spread further inside the structure.

The cause of the fire appears to be electrical wires on the second floor.  The fire was investigated by Delaware County's Fire Marshal (Car 99).

Firefighters remained on scene until 16:00 hours.

Units operating on the scene were:  Quint 03, Engine 03-2, Engine 03-1, Engine 74-1, Engine 74-2, Engine 44-1, Rescue 44, Ladder 19, Pipeline 19, Engine 19-2, Medic 103-7B, Medic 06-7, Clifton Heights Police and Fire Police and County Car 99.
