Company 44 Assist at 260 Kirk Lane - Upper Providence

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on March 8th at 06:47 hours to assist Rose Tree Fire Company (Company 73) at 260 Kirk Lane for a House Fire.

Upon arrival of initial units from Upper Providence Police Department and Chief 73-9A, heavy smoke was showing in the area.  Once on scene at the house, Chief 73-9A encountered a heavy fire condition in the attic area of the two story structure.  The house was set back off the street about 400 feet.

73-9A established Kirk Lane Command and had Rescue 73 lay a 5" supply line up the driveway and start an interior attack with an 1 3/4" hoseline.  Squirt 23 laid a 5" supply line from the hydrant at Orange Street and Kirk Lane and completed the supply line upto the driveway.  Tower 44 positioned in the driveway about 100 feet from the fire building.  Firefighters from Squirt 23, Tower 44, Engine 23-2 and Engine 44-2 assisted with additional attack hoselines, laddering the building and ventilation.  Engine 73-2 connected to the hydrant at Orange Street and Kirk Lane.

With fire conditions worsening in the attic area, Kirk Lane Command ordered all firefighters out of the building and started a defensive attack.  Firefighters from Engine 51-1, Rescue 51, Rescue 52, Utility 73 and Tele-Squirt 50 assisted on the fire ground.

Firefighters operated numerous handlines inside and outside the structure during the fire.  Salvage operations were performed on the first floor and basement area of the home which helped save valuable personal belongs.   The house sustained major fire and structural damage to the second floor and attic areas, while the first floor and basement areas sustained smoke and water damage.

Assisting units remained on the scene until 10:00 hours, Company 73 remained on the scene until 11:30 hours.  Springfield Fire Company Officer In Charge, Keith Thomas, (OIC 44-12), assisted Kirk Lane Command during the incident along with Chief 23-9 and 23-9A.

Units operating on the scene were:  Rescue 73, Engine 73-2, Utility 73, Squirt 23, Engine 23-2, Tower 44, Engine 44-2, Engine 51-1, Rescue 51, Rescue 52, Tele-Squirt 50, Canteen 47, Medic 23, Ambulance 23-7, Ambulance 69-7, Upper Providence P.D., and Sixth District Fire Police.
