Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Saturday, August 24th, at 20:34 hours for a Tree on Fire at 232 Colonial Park Drive.  TAC 44 responded and County Fireboard quickly upgraded the call to a Structure fire at the same address.   Chief 44-9A arrived on scene with a working fire in the basement.

TAC 44 went into service with an 1 3/4" hoseline and quickly controlled the fire in the basement area.  Firefighters from Tower 44 and Engine 44-2 assisted on the scene with ventilation and checking for fire extension.   Firefighters contained the fire to the basement area.

A large tree on the front lawn of the dwelling was struck by lightning during the heavy storms that went through the area.  No one was home at the time of the incident.

Because of the quick actions of firefighters and local residents to call 911, the house sustained only moderate smoke damage throughout the home and fire damage was minimal in the basement.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 22:00 hours.

Units operating on the scene were:  TAC 44, Tower 44, Engine 44-2, Ambulance 44-7, Medic 106 (Springfield Hospital), Springfield Police and Fire Police, and Springfield Township Fire Marshal.
