Upon arrival of initial units from Springfield PD and Chief 44-9, heavy fire was showing from the rear of the 1 1/2 story structure. County 911 had received numerous calls from the neighborhood reporting the structure fire. Engine 44-1 arrived on the scene and went into service with 2 - 1 3/4" hoselines. One line was placed into service in the rear of the structure to control the fire in the rear porch of the home and to cut down on fire extension while the second was stretched through the front door to start extinguishing the fast moving fire on the first and second floors. Firefighters from Engine 44-1 hand laid a 5" supply line to the hydrant across the street from the residence.
